Founded in 1974, Avignonesi is the leading winery in the Montepulciano area of Tuscany, enjoying a sterling reputation amongst wine critics around the world. Sangiovese is also known as Prugnolo Gentile in Montepulciano. These grapes are grown on clay rich soils, then undergo a natural fermentation from indigenous yeasts. After maceration with skins for 15 days in large Slavonian casks, the wine spends 5 months in oak barrel and a minimum of 3 months in bottle before release.
Certified organic, 100% Sangiovese and an instant favourite. Medium bodied with open, red berry fruits, hints of spice and a wonderful floral edge to the expressive nose. The palate is smooth and harmonius with a lovely balance of sweet fruits and fresh acidity.
