Bodega Atamisque, named after a local shrub, are a quality-driven small producer in the heart of Mendoza's Tupungato sub-region. At 1300 metres elevation, their vines benefit from a combination of excellent sun exposure and cold nights giving perfect balance between ripeness and freshness. French winemaker Philippe Caraguel works the fruit with care into very classy wines, with will balanced oak not overpowering the natural character of the variety and region.
The Catalpa Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a 50 year old vineyard, which is very uncommon for Mendoza where most vines are much younger. Half of the wine is aged in new French oak barrels while the other half matures in stainless steel, to preserve the natural fruit character. This is deep and concentrated wine, with ripe tannins and a full body. Cassis, raspberry jam and roasted red pepper mingle on the nose, with hints of cocoa and vanilla.
