Founded in 1685, Boschendal are one of South Africa's most historic wineries. Nestled between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, they have carefully tended vineyards in both regions allowing them to produce a wide range of styles. In recent years they have made a great push in sustainability, introducing regenerative farming practices and solar power for their winery.
The Vin D'Or is made from late harvested Riesling and Viognier that have been affected by the 'noble rot' botrytis. This concentrates the sweetness of the grapes, creating this decadent nectar of a dessert wine. The nose delivers a heady mix of apricot jam, wildflower honey and mango puree aromas. The palate starts out exceptionally sweet, with candied peel and peach notes before the fresh Riesling acidity kicks in on the finish, leaving a delightfully fresh impression. It has such lovely weight and concentration you could have a glass of this for dessert by itself, or pair with fruit tarts, creme brulee or good quality vanilla ice cream.
