Cahors has been renowned for its robust red wines since the Middle Ages, with Malbec, locally known as Côt, thriving in the region’s warmer, drier summers compared to Bordeaux, producing fuller-bodied wines.
The Bernède family has cultivated 38 hectares at Clos La Coutale for six generations, benefiting from the Lot Valley’s prime soils. Their southwest-facing vineyards are shielded from the cold winds of the Massif Centrale, allowing the grapes to ripen slightly earlier than in other parts of Cahors. This classic Cahors blend of 80% Malbec and 20% Merlot strikes a perfect balance, offering structure alongside round, ripe brambly fruit and impressive length, especially in the hot and dry 2022 vintage.
