Cantine Povero are fourth generation wine producers in the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato sub regions of Piedmont Italy. They can trace winemaking in their family back to 1837.
They have switched over the years from working the vineyards with machinery, to a more sustainable way of farming. They are now organic, they have created a vast natural biodiversity in the vineyards, and they are innovative with their use of energy.
Cascina Vengore is a project made by Povero, based in a tiny Piedmont DOCG called Terre Alfieri. This is a great place for growing the Nebbiolo grape. This tiny 2.5 hectare vineyard is farmed biodynamically, which has been aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 16 months. It is a spicy wine, fruit driven with juicy berry flavours, it is elegant and very drinkable.
