On the plateau above the Loire in the village of Souzay-Champigny stands the beautiful Chateau de Villeneuve. Built in the 16th century, the chateau sustained significant damage during WW2 but has been painstakingly restored since the Chevallier family acquired the property in the 1960s. The 25 acres of vineyards around the chateau are farmed organically, using cover crops to reduce reliance on fertilisers and pesticides.
A classic Saumur Champigny red, made from Cabernet Franc partly aged in old oak barrels. Bright and fresh, with juicy red cherry and cranberry fruit and some crunchy vegetal notes typical of this style. A brilliant table wine that pairs beautifully with vegetable based dishes.
