Founded by three friends who made the switch from wine-sellers to winemakers, Chateau Laulan is an estate in the Francs - Cotes de Bordeaux region, 10km east of Saint Emilion. The vines have been farmed sustainably, certified by HVE in France, from the beginning and they are in the midst of achieving organic certification as well.
A blend of 50% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec and 10% Cabernet Franc from two plots - one on clay-limestone contributing freshness and one on clay-silt giving more body. The wine is aged for 18 months in concrete tanks to help soften the tannins and allow more complexity to develop.
Brambly blackberry and ripe raspberry dominate the aroma, with hints of pepper and earth. On the palate it is medium to full, with soft ripe tannins and plenty of bold fruit flavour. Delicious on the table with a Sunday roast.
