Any early adopter of Biodynamic farming (certified in 2003), Christophe Mittnacht is one of our favourite winemakers in Alsace. His wines are reliably pure, fresh and fantastic with food - no surprise as he is married to a Japanese chef.
The Pinot Gris comes from selected vineyards in the villages of Hunawihr and Ribeauville, where limestone-rich soils contribute fine minerality and drive to the wines. The wine is fermented in large old oak vats without the addition of cultured yeast to preserve the natural character of the fruit.
The aroma is richly fruity, Williams pear, mirabelle and quince, with hints of nutmeg and hazelnut. Your palate is greeted with a rounded and generous texture, persistent flavours of ripe orchard fruit and baking spices finished off with a seam of refreshing acidity. A superb all-rounder that should age nicely, or drink wonderfully with soft cheeses, roast pork or tuna steak.
