Founded by the dynamic producer Fiona Leroy, this Domaine made its debut in the Maranges AOC with the 2018 vintage. Nestled in the picturesque and secluded village of Dezize-Les-Maranges, situated at the southernmost tip of the Cote de Beaune, the Domaine enjoys a rich ecological tapestry. From woodlands to pastures, rivers to hills, it encompasses a diverse range of environments, fostering an abundance of wildlife.
Fiona Leroy's approach to viticulture is deeply rooted in her surroundings, as she wholeheartedly embraces organic and biodynamic practices. Employing infusions and decoctions of horn manure, silica, horsetail, nettle, and achillea, she nurtures her vineyards with meticulous care. Manual labour is prioritized, with ploughing executed using a small caterpillar tractor, and all harvesting conducted by hand.
In the cellar, Fiona's winemaking philosophy is guided by simplicity and tradition, eschewing artifice to allow the nuances of each terroir to shine through. New oak is eschewed entirely, preserving the purity of her wines. Sulphur dioxide is used sparingly, if at all, with minimal intervention in the winemaking process. Reds are neither fined nor filtered, while whites undergo only a light filtration, ensuring the integrity of the final product reflects the essence of her vineyards.
This stunning Chardonnay, from a plot of 40-60 year old vines, does not taste like your average white burgundy. With no strong oak flavour, minerality and fruit can shine through beautifully. Slightly oxidative style with hints of bruised apple and honey, a powerful finish and subtle nuttiness.
