Don Cristóbal 1492 was founded in 1998 and began its own wine production with the 2001 harvest. It is a family-run winery led by Argentinian Eduardo Lapania and his son Cristóbal, with the support of the Belgian Vandenbalack family. Located in Mendoza, the heart of Argentina’s wine country, Don Cristóbal has established itself as a producer of high-quality wines with a strong focus on innovation and tradition.
The estate spans approximately 200 hectares, with 143 hectares under vine across four distinct sites: Finca La Niña, Finca La Pinta, Finca El Remanso, and Finca La Santa Maria. The winery, built in 2008, is situated in the El Remanso vineyard at Ugarteche, just off National Route 40. Equipped with state-of-the-art temperature control technology, the cellar has a capacity of 2,200,000 litres, utilising epoxy-coated concrete tanks, stainless steel tanks, and French and American oak barrels.
Full, round and very juicy, with sweet damson and pretty, floral blueberry fruit supported by a little rich oak. Generous indeed and a great easy-drinking alternative to Malbec.
