Argyros Estate in Santorini was established in 1903. They have since relocated to a new, purpose-built winery just in time for the 2015 harvest, having outgrown their old premises some years prior. The new facility features temperature control, gravity-fed juice movement, advanced filtration equipment, and more. The estate now owns 65 hectares of vineyards, including both recently planted vines and some exceptionally old ones, with the latter's grapes used for the Estate wines.
The Mavrotragano variety boasts a deep ruby-red colour, with a nose of black fruits, spicy aromas, and a beautiful oak finish. It is powerful and full-bodied, achieving a remarkable balance between strength and finesse, and has excellent cellaring potential. This wine is aged for 12 months in 500-liter French oak barrels.
It pairs perfectly with red meat, spicy dishes, or meals with red sauce.
