The winery's history is intertwined with a family dedicated to preserving and elevating Barbaresco since 1971. Today, the legacy of winegrowing is upheld by Giuseppe’s children, Pier Carlo and Tiziana, along with his son-in-law Gabriele, all of whom embody the Cortese family's enduring spirit of determination. Their meticulous attention to vineyard care, stringent selection processes, traditional vinification methods, and a thoughtful integration of modern techniques combine to create the distinctive character and unique flavours of Cortese wines.
The second vintage of the estate's non-cru Barbaresco aims to provide a mid-range option between the prestigious ‘grand cru’ Rabaja and the Langhe Nebbiolo, while preserving the Cortese brand's identity and reputation. The wine undergoes approximately 30 days of fermentation in stainless steel and old cement tanks, followed by 18 to 20 months of aging in Slavonian oak barrels. Before release, it matures for at least 6 months in the bottle.
Rounded yet restrained, with dark fruits enveloped in finely balanced tannins. This wine is crafted from a selection of older vines in the Trifolera vineyard and younger vines in Rabaja. Its rich, earthy undertones make it an excellent companion to mushroom risotto.
