Heidi Schrock took over her family vineyard in the village of Rust, Burgenland in 1983. As well as being famed for its late harvest dessert wines, this is an area excellent for growing Austria's native red varieties. Now working with her twin sons Johannes and Georg, they farm their vineyards organically, in view of the majestic Lake Nieusedl.
Junge Lowen (Young Lions) is a fresh and moreish blend of 85% Blaufrankisch with 15% St Laurent, aged for 10 months in large old Austrian oak vats to soften the texture without imparting oak flavour.
Vibrant and expressive, with raspberry and cherry fruit notes complemented by peppery hints and a touch of violet on the nose. The tannins are soft which matches the juicy fruit brilliantly to make for a super drinkable red with lovely depth and length.
