Domaine Georges Noëllat, in the heart of the village of Vosne-Romanee, is a historic estate now helmed by the young and highly talented Maxime Cheurlin, grandson of founder Georges. He took over in 2010 aged just 20 years old, after studying at the Lycee du Viticole and gaining experience at the outstanding Rouget and Gros family domaines. Wines labeled 'Maxime Cheurlin Noëllat' come from fruit purchased from other growers who Maxime works closely with.
Maxime's winemaking style is heralded for the gentle treatment of the grapes, allowing terroir and finesse to shine through. He destems almost all of his red grapes, and allows for a natural extraction without excessive punch downs to achieve deliciously balanced tannins. After aging the wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
From a 1 hectare parcel in Leully above Nuits-Saint-Georges, this is a lovely example of the quality and value to be found in the Hautes-Cotes. South-facing slopes and elevage in 33% new oak mean that, while this is a very approachable wine, it has not shortage of depth and weight.
Very polished, with creamy red fruits, oak spice and an underlying minerality. No hard edges anywhere on the palate, velvet in texture and clean through the finish.
