Domaine Georges Noëllat, in the heart of the village of Vosne-Romanee, is a historic estate now helmed by the young and highly talented Maxime Cheurlin, grandson of founder Georges. He took over in 2010 aged just 20 years old, after studying at the Lycee du Viticole and gaining experience at the outstanding Rouget and Gros family domaines. Wines labeled 'Maxime Cheurlin Noëllat' come from fruit purchased from other growers who Maxime works closely with.
Maxime's winemaking style is heralded for the gentle treatment of the grapes, allowing terroir and finesse to shine through. He destems almost all of his red grapes, and allows for a natural extraction without excessive punch downs to achieve deliciously balanced tannins. After aging the wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
Sandwiched between Chambolle and Gevrey, the wines of Morey-Saint-Denis can fly a little under the radar compared to it's neighbouring villages, but at their best they balance the perfume and sensuality of the former with the guts and power of the latter. From 50+ year old vines in the limestone soils of Clos Solon and Les Sionnieres Maxime has crafted a beautiful representation of Morey in a bottle.
Complex and layered in the aroma, with wild strawberry and rhubarb, smoky notes, sweet spices and a hint of dried flowers. Lovely sweet-tasting fruit at the front of the palate, with lovely silky tannin leading into the fresh finish.
