Domaine Georges Noëllat, in the heart of the village of Vosne-Romanee, is a historic estate now helmed by the young and highly talented Maxime Cheurlin, grandson of founder Georges. He took over in 2010 aged just 20 years old, after studying at the Lycee du Viticole and gaining experience at the outstanding Rouget and Gros family domaines. Wines labeled 'Maxime Cheurlin Noëllat' come from fruit purchased from other growers who Maxime works closely with.
Maxime's winemaking style is heralded for the gentle treatment of the grapes, allowing terroir and finesse to shine through. He destems almost all of his red grapes, and allows for a natural extraction without excessive punch downs to achieve deliciously balanced tannins. After aging the wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
From 55+ year old vines in two village lieux-dits (Au Bas de Combe and Longecourt), this is rich in the savoury dark fruit characteristic of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Damson, elderberry and blackberry with an undertone of woody earthiness. A firm matrix of fine tannin guides the wine across the palate, filling every corner of the mouth and extending into the finish where a touch of oak joins the rich fruits. A brilliant red for pairing with strongly flavoured game such as pheasant or venison.
