Domaine Pellé produces world-renowned, terroir-expressive wines from its family-owned vineyards. Fourth-generation winemaker Paul-Henry Pellé pays meticulous attention to viticulture and winemaking, ensuring that the pure varietal flavours and aromas of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir and the natural characteristics of the Kimmeridgian vineyards are expressed in your glass.
Ratier is their top vineyard, boasting a southeast exposure with minimal soil—just 30 to 50 centimeters before hitting the Kimmeridgian bedrock. About 30% of the wine is fermented in tanks, while the rest matures in foudres, large French oak barrels. The wine achieves an exceptional balance, made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc. The old vines and ideal exposure result in a ripe, flavour-packed profile, yet the influence of the rocky soil keeps it tense, crisp, and almost salty. It's a serious, stony expression of Sauvignon Blanc, free from the overly fruity character often found in the variety. As it finishes, a wonderfully appetizing bitterness subtly emerges.
This is a truly fabulous wine, a genuine Loire classic that doesn't need to be rushed. It can age beautifully for many years.
