A skill learnt when winemaking in Bordeaux, Luc takes the art of creating a botrytised dessert wine extremely seriously. Searching across California for the right spot, he eventually found the perfect place in the gravelly soil of an ancient riverbed in the beautiful Alexander Valley. Here the old vines benefit from hot afternoons and cool, foggy mornings, favorable for the development of Noble Rot. Extremely small yields in the Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat vineyards lead to immensely concentrated fruit. The resulting wine, a love note or 'Billet Doux', has an intense bouquet of dry apricot, pêche de vigne and yellow plum intermixed with notes of quince, honey and a hint of sweet vanilla. Full-bodied, the palate is rich and opulent with a creamy, sweet texture leading to a very long and smooth finish. Wonderful in it's youth, this wine will continue to age and develop almost indefinitely.
