Restless river has quickly reached cult status among many South African wine lovers, although they haven't been around that long the wines they have created are of the highest quality. The vines they look after are some of the oldest in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. This coastal region far away from the bulk producers based around Cape Town is highly regarded as one of the best climates to produces wines from.
The 2021 Ava Marie Chardonnay, from a single 2.1ha vineyard on granitic soil, lives up to the exceptionally high bar set by previous vintages. An intense core of lemon and apricot fruit is built upon with hints of buttery oak, laurel and cedar notes building into a long saline mineral finish. One of the finest examples of this grape anywhere on the planet.
