Hacienda López de Haro Rioja Blanco 2022 - £11.49 - A complex and fleshy white wine, made from mainly Viura and with other varieties completing the blend. Ageing takes three months in French oak barrels. Ripe fruit, dates and banana notes, citrus and a hint of vanilla. It is fresh and fleshy, leaving a long, balanced and clean aftertaste.
Bodegas Casa Primicia Rioja Chardonnay 2021 - £16.99 - Aged in both American and French oak for 6 months - the former for richness and the latter for elegance. It is blended together to create a well balanced, sophisticated white Rioja and can age for many years. A delightful nose of peach and citrus with hints of banana. Beautifully balanced on the palate with a rich texture and fresh, citrusy acidity. Plenty of depth here and a serious glass of white wine.
Gomez Crusado Linea Karman Rioja Tinto 2022 - £12.99 - The Gomez Crusado winery has been pushing boundaries of this iconic style for 140 years. Linea Karman is a fresh take on this style using old vines and breaking the rules on traditional Rioja production to produce something truly "out of this world". Crunchy wild berries and scattered black pepper hits you in the first mouthful, but you’ll go back for more. It’s soft tannins balance with acidity, bringing out the best of the fruit, without the heavy oak the region is known for.
Martinez Lacuesta Rioja Crianza 2019 - £17.50 - This is a modern wine from a very historic producer. Bodegas Martinez Lacuesta have been making wine since the late 1800s and three generations of the Lacuesta family have made the wine during this period. They are based in Haro in the Rioja Alta. The Crianza has been aged for 18 months in American oak barrels, and 6 months in bottle before release. The oak adds vanilla, spice and a creaminess, which is backed up with ripe berry fruit.
Palacio del Camino Real Reserva 2017 - £14.95 - They source their grapes from San Vicente de la Sonsierra, the heart of La Rioja Alta, known for its heritage and exceptional old Tempranillo vineyards. This wine stands out for its exceptional value and popularity. It boasts a powerful nose with primary aromas of ripe fruit, enhanced by complex spicy and balsamic notes, and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, it is well-balanced with integrated tannins. An excellent choice for pairing with roast lamb dinner.
