Through his time at Cape Point, Duncan Savage grew to understand maritime vineyards, which led him to source grapes for Savage wines from maritime and high altitude sites around the Western Cape. He also worked in France with the legend Didier Dagueneau which honed his skills working with Sauvignon Blanc, Savage is now considered the finest proponent of this grape variety in South Africa.
Until this release, Duncan has mainly concentrated on his Savage range of wines. In 2019 they stumbled across a 32 year old block of vines in Stellenbosch, a vineyard with the right elevation, warmth and wind for Sauvignon Blanc. And so the Salt River Sauvignon Blanc was born. Salt River is the heart of Cape Town and where Savage Wines are based.
The wine is fermented and aged in a combination of steel, concrete eggs and old barrels before settling for two months in bottle before release. It is full of concentrated fruit flavours, with citrus notes and a lovely purity, which makes this a very drinkable Sauvignon.
