On the historic main road through Franschhoek Valley, the Old Road Wine Co celebrate the winemaking heritage of South Africa's oldest wine region. Sourcing from a plethora of unique sites and old vines around the Western Cape, head winemaker Ryan Puttick crafts wines of excellent purity and freshness.
The Stone Trail vineyard in Franschhoek, a registered Old Vine Heritage site planted in 1982, produces their top Chenin Blanc. Unirrigated vines grow in loose rocky soil surrounded by fynbos high on the slopes of the Franschhoek Valley, producing a wine with balanced concentration and astounding freshness.
Layered and complex in aroma, with notes of mango and orange zest, wet stone, fresh cream and quince jam. The palate is rich but not fat, with the rounded fruit balanced by broad acidity, mineral notes and a textured quality like russet apples. Bold yet very classy, sure to pair stunningly with fine seafood, chicken or pork dishes.
