A family-owned winery founded in 1946, Barbeito are at the forefront of quality wine production on the island of Madeira. Working the steep and rugged vineyards here is a labour of love, as is the long barrel ageing required to make the refined and complex fortified wines the island is famed for.
Their 10 Year Old Reserva Velha Verdelho is a shining example; it has wonderful bracing freshness balancing the sultana sweetness at the front of the palate and deep, nutty, savoury complexity. The length of flavour makes these wines superb to sit and sip with good company but they are equally wonderful paired with cured meats, cheeses or anchovies.
