Mothering Sunday approaches fast, and what better way to say ‘Thanks for putting up with me for the last few decades’ to your Mum (or anyone who is the mothering figure in your life) than a delicious bottle of something or other. Whether its a favourite spirit, fizz or completely obscure libation, here are a few ideas that we feel would be well received;
Blackdown Sussex Gin (England)
Sussex contributes its own Mother’s Ruin in this handcrafted, top drawer bottle. The addition of foraged Birch sap makes for a delicate, floral and very gentle Gin that is uniquely delicious. Excellent as a G&T with some fresh mint, it also makes a great Martini and i’ve heard of it being enjoyed on its own on ice. Local produce at its finest.
Vida Al Camp Brut Rose NV (Spain)
Cava is having a moment in the UK right now, with the realisation that it is top quality, delicious and incredibly well priced merging with the arrival of smaller and quality driven brands. This delicious number from Vida Al Camp balances fresh, flowery notes from the traditional cava grapes Xarel-Lo & Paralleda with a streak of cassis donated by the rose Cava staple, Trepat. Bright, zippy and great fun with the added bonus of being Organic/biodynamic.
Edouard Brun Reserve 1er Cru, Champagne NV (France)
Simply delicious for a celebration, this is an exceptional Champagne built mainly of powerful, ripe Pinot Noir from from some of the best premier cru sites in the Vallee De la Marne. The balance is top drawer Chardonnay providing freshness and elegance, with an extended ageing period giving that luxurious richness and texture we all love and adore. Excellent champagne and incredible value.
Wiston Vineyard Cuvee Rose 2014 (England)
If Wiston keep winning awards they’ll have to move into dealing trophies instead of wine. On a hot streak at the moment, and for good reason Wiston produce incredible English wines of focus, intensity and class. There’s elegant, pure fruit and a luxurious opulence rarely found in the UK. Impressive work from Wiston as always, and a fine gift.
