We recently went on a journey through the iconic Loire Valley hosted by Simon Hore, a good friend of ours from one of our favourite suppliers. Joined by Henry, they gave a full breakdown on anything and everything Loire! The tasting had a fantastic range of wines, including sparkling, whites and reds, to really show off the diversity of this beautiful wine region. suitable for every level of wine knowledge. We have put together this special mixed case for anyone that missed out on the tasting and wanted to experience these fantastic wines for themselves.

Domaine Vigneau-Chevreau Vouvray Pétillant Brut NV 21.99

This Domaine Vigneau-Chevreau Vouvray Pétillant Brut is a beautiful gently sparkling wine made with 100% Chenin Blanc grapes grown organically and biodynamically, it offers complex, well-balanced flavours of dry, crunchy apples, and is an excellent and original aperitif.

Sancerre Blanc, Domaine Jean-Paul Balland 2023 £25.95

This Sancerre Blanc comes from a mixture of limestone pebbly stones “caillottes” and calcareous-clay “Terres Blanches”. The wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel and undergo regular bâtonnage. Intense aroma, with scents of anise and mint associated to sweet quince and pineapple. On the palate mild ripe peachy fruits with hints of citrus and fresh herbs. The attack is lively, fresh and floral (honeysuckle, acacia).

Villeneuve Saumur Blanc 2023 £21.75

From their vineyard on the shelf of limestone on the south bank of the Loire they make this elegant and refined white wine. 30% fermentation in barrel contributes richness which is balanced by Chenin's natural acidity. Aromas of honeysuckle and stem ginger are interwoven with fresh apple fruit and mineral notes. A long dry finish makes for an excellent pairing with fresh fish or poultry dishes.

Grosbois Chinon Rouge ‘La cuisine de ma mère’ 2023 £20.99

Chinon specialises in red wines made from the Cabernet Franc grape, they can be bright and fresh, and sometimes fuller bodied, spicy and capable of ageing over ten years. Vintages are important, as the Loire is cool region, and Cabernet Franc needs a decent amount of sun to ripen it, to bring the fruit flavours to the fore, balancing the herby peppery notes. We really like this particular Chinon, as it is light bodied and fresh, and has a fun label.

Domaine Yannick Amirault Bourgueil Cote 50 2023 £21.95

This is a vibrant and approachable red wine crafted from Cabernet Franc grapes. This vintage offers a harmonious blend of fruit-forward aromas and subtle herbal nuances.Bright red fruits, blackberry and blueberry, with some delicate herbal notes reminiscent of red bell pepper. The wine is medium-bodied with supple tannins and lively acidity. The fruit-forward profile is balanced by a touch of spice, enhancing its complexity.

The Domaine Fournier-Longchamps Savennières "La Croix Picot" is a distinguished Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley, celebrated for its complexity and ageing potential.Aromas of lime blossom, green citrus fruits, and honey, complemented by notes of white flowers and lime. It's rich and crisp with a clean minerality.
