You could describe D.O. Montilla-Moriles as the relative of Jerez-Xérès-Sherry. While it might not be as well-known among the general public, both regions share a rich tradition, producing similar wines in a variety of styles using mostly the same production methods. The resemblance between them is unmistakable, yet there are some intriguing differences to note. Notably, the wines from Montilla-Moriles cannot be labelled as "sherry." One of the region's claims to fame is Pedro Ximénez, a style created from grapes partially dried in the sun before pressing.

Albalá consistently achieves a remarkable level of quality in each of their wine releases. Their products are truly top-notch. Aromas of raisins, figs and honey instantly take over, together with caramel and savoury freshness from grape stalks. On the palate, sweet, silky, mild acidity and bitter vegetables which balance the sweetness of the dried grapes and leaves a pleasant finish.
