Maria Pato hails from a long line of winemakers in the illustrious Bairrada region of Portugal. Her father, the esteemed Luis Pato, is a legend in the winemaking world, and her elder sister, the respected Filipa Pato, adds to the family's rich heritage.

Maria's answer to her region's identity is her own artistic creation—an innovative wine project known as João Pato, or Duckman, where she meticulously crafts small-batch wines using indigenous grapes grown on sustainable practices.
