Logodaj Melnik 55 Struma Valley Reserve 2022

The Logodaj Winery began in 1994 and can be found in the heart of the stunning Struma Valley which is the sunniest and hottest part of Bulgaria. Implementing a rich history and centuries long traditions in wine production in partnership with the warm sun rays and the terrain, they are able to craft world class wines few outside the country have experienced.

Made from 100% Melnik 55, also known as Early Melnik Vine, this wine showcases the signature red indigenous grape variety of the Struma Valley, a region renowned for producing exceptional wines. The Melnik 55 variety holds historical significance, even being a favourite of Sir Winston Churchill, who famously had a regular annual shipment of Melnik red wines delivered to the cellar at 10 Downing Street.

The harvest takes place in early October, ensuring the grapes reach optimal technological maturity. Hand-picked in small boxes from controlled-yield vineyards, the grapes undergo a meticulous double sorting process upon arrival at the cellar—first on the bunches, and then on the individual grapes. The wine is macerated and fermented vigorously in newFrench oak barrels, with malolactic fermentation and aging taking place in 225-liter French oak barriques for 24 months. After bottling, the wine is aged for an additional three months, allowing it to fully integrate before being released on the market.

This medium to full-bodied wine is a deep ruby red with elegant violet nuances. Its complex and expressive aroma features notes of ripe red fruits, black cherry, and blueberry, intertwined with delicate vanilla nuances and subtle spicy accents. On the palate, it offers a rich and harmonious experience with layers of fruit and spice.
