Oldenburg is a must-know name in South African wine, especially for those familiar with the industry. Located in the Banghoek Valley of Stellenbosch, Oldenburg is celebrated not only for producing exceptional wines but also for its stunning tasting room, one of the most beautiful in the Cape. Nestled in a mountain amphitheatre, the estate benefits from one of the region’s coolest microclimates, with growing conditions that are approximately 5 degrees cooler than the rest of Stellenbosch thanks to high altitude and cooling winds.
The CL range represents Oldenburg's Lifestyle collection, cleverly named to highlight its cooler-than-Stellenbosch origin. The name "CL" playfully references the Stellenbosch number plate prefix and degrees Celsius. The range includes both a red and a white blend.
The CL White is an innovative blend of 42% Chardonnay and 58% Chenin Blanc, showcasing the rewards of winemaking experimentation. To achieve the desired structure, the Chenin Blanc and a portion of the Chardonnay are fermented in concrete eggs, while the remaining Chardonnay is fermented in older oak barrels.
This wine offers a harmonious blend of citrus fruits, fresh floral notes (from elderflower and orange blossom to jasmine), lemon curd, minerality, and a subtle hint of vanilla.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
