Riesling Venchan Single Vineyard 2022

Odessos is one of the new wave of Bulgarian wineries, located in the city of Varna on the Black Sea coast, with a ground-breaking and very modern concept and whose story began in 2016. After travelling around the world and gaining experience at some of the most prestigious wineries in Australia, New Zealand and Chile, the brothers Georgi and Vladislav Vankov came up with the idea of creating one of the first urban wineries in Bulgaria. Love for winemaking has been in their family for generations and the idea of creating Odessos was a natural continuation of this passion.

From Venchan village vineyard, grown amidst the picturesque landscape between Venchansko Kale and the Zlatina River, 19-year-old vines thrive in sandy-clay carbonates, basking in the southeast exposure at 90 meters altitude, just 25 miles from the Black Sea coast.

Handpicked with precision and care, their Riesling grapes are delicately transported to a cold room for optimal preservation of their vibrant flavours. Following manual sorting and gentle pressing, the finest must undergoes cold settling and meticulous alcoholic fermentation control at 11-15°C. This process ensures the preservation of the wine's purity and finesse. After aging for three months on fine lees and a further year in the bottle, the wine emerges with a pale steel colour tinged with a subtle straw hue, plus an intense varietal nose of lime, beeswax, and a hint of petroleum.

On the palate, it offers a captivating journey of flavours, from its tight, lean structure to its rich notes of citrus peel, seeds, flint, and beeswax. With an ABV of 12% and balanced acidity of 8 g/l, this light to medium-bodied wine boasts excellent freshness and complexity.

Pairing seamlessly with Asian cuisine, particularly Thai, Chinese, and Indian dishes, as well as fish, seafood, shellfish, and fresh cheeses.
