Cantina Terlano is a co-op in Alto Adige, a mountainous area next to the Dolomites in a part of Italy that still thinks it is Austrian. Daytime temperatures are close to those found in the Veronese area about 60 miles away, towards the sea but at night the cold air rolls in off the mountains cooling the grapes and allowing flavours and acidity to develop. The volcanic soil in the area produces arguably Italy’s longest lived white wines, with vintages dating back to the 1950’s and 1960’s still drinking beautifully. Even their basic cuvée Terlaner, produced since 1893 possesses this fabled ageing capacity.
We visited Cantina Terlano last year. Lovely place, amazing people.
After the vineyard and winery tour we had a wine tasting and tried lots of their current vintages and a couple of the really old ones - we loved them all!
Below are the pictures of the winery and also the window in their cellar showing cross section of the soil in Terlan.
We now have these fantastic Terlano wines back in stock! For those of you who want to keep them to age, we would love to source magnums for you, please just ask.

Terlan, Vorberg, Pinot Bianco 2014 - Buy it now
Grown on a precipitous patch of land high up in the mountains above the valley, it is difficult to understand how this is grown and picked at all! Straw yellow colour, there is a wonderful combination of ripe fruit, melon and pineapple and a hint of jasmine with a mineral touch on the other. A rich oily character infuses the minerally and spicy character on the aftertaste. A unique and delicious wine.
