Drink Pink! It’s Rosé Season

Drink Pink! It’s Rosé Season

Drink Pink – It’s Rosé Season at Butler’s Wine Cellar

As the days get warmer and the evenings stretch out, there’s one style of wine that always rises to the occasion: rosé. It’s crisp, cool, wonderfully refreshing, and just so easy to love.

At Butler’s, we think rosé deserves more than just a summer fling, but it’s true that there’s something about sunshine and a glass of pale pink wine that feels like the perfect match. And with so many different styles to choose from, from delicate and dry to fruit-forward and zesty – it’s the perfect time to explore the rosy spectrum.

What ExactlyIs Rosé Wine?

Let’s start with a little myth-busting: rosé is not made by mixing red and white wine (well, sometimes, but that’s a different story!). Most rosé is made using red grapes, where the juice is left in contact with the grape skins for a short period, anywhere from a couple of hours to a day or so. That’s what gives rosé its lovely blush colour.

Winemakers then press the juice and ferment it like a white wine, resulting in a crisp, refreshing wine that carries some of the fruit character of red wine but with the bright acidity of a white. The exact colour and flavour profile depend on the grape variety, region, and technique, which is why rosé can range from pale and dry to bold and juicy.

Why We Love Rosé (And Why It Loves Food)

Aside from being incredibly drinkable, one of rosé’s biggest strengths is itsversatility with food. It can go where many white or red wines struggle:

  • Light, pale rosé? Brilliant with seafood, sushi, and salads.

  • Juicy, fruitier styles? Great with grilled vegetables, tapas, or mildly spiced dishes.

  • Structured or more savoury rosés? Bring on the barbecues, grilled meats, or Provençal classics like ratatouille and Niçoise salad.

It’s the perfect picnic wine. The best BBQ companion. And an unbeatable option when you just don’t know what to pair.

This Year’s Rosé Picks

We’ve tasted our way through a lot of pink wine to bring you our favourite bottles for the 2024 season:

Tenuta Sella Coste della Sesia Rosato “Majoli” 2023 – £22.50

From the northern Italian region of Piedmont, this beautifully crafted Rosato offers structure, elegance and serious charm. Delicate red fruits, floral aromatics and a mineral streak make it a top-tier food rosé. We first poured it at a Barbaresco tasting and everyone fell in love, and promptly ordered it!

Gris Marin IGP Rosé Sable de Camargue 2023 – £10.99

Made in the wild Camargue, this rosé is grown in sandy soils near the Mediterranean and carries the fresh sea breeze right into the glass. Expect zingy citrus, white peach, and a gentle saline tang. It’s pale, crisp, and ridiculously drinkable.

Château Saint-Pierre Cuvée Tradition Rosé 2024 IGP – £12.95

The kind of rosé that’s basically summer in a bottle. Light, dry, with soft red berries and a subtle herbal note. This is your perfect garden party rosé – or just a reliable go-to for whenever you want something effortlessly elegant.

Domaine Grandpré Cuvée Minotaure Rosé 2024 – £19.95

This one screams Provence, pale pink, beautifully perfumed, and textured with notes of wild strawberries, peach, and a refined mineral edge. A classy choice for more serious sipping, or alongside a seafood platter, summer risotto, or grilled langoustines.

Albourne Estate Sussex Rosé 2023 – £16.99

Locally made, and full of life. This vibrant English rosé is packed with juicy summer berries – strawberry, raspberry, and cherry – plus crisp acidity and a dry finish. A proud Sussex rosé that punches well above its weight. Try it with a goat’s cheese tart, charcuterie, or simply on its own in the sunshine.

Let Rosé Be Your Summer Staple

Whether you’re into Provence chic or wild Camargue freshness, Italian elegance or homegrown English sparkle, we’ve got a rosé for your style and budget.

And remember, rosé is not just for summer, but it’s certainly at its most charming when the sun is shining.
