Jake's trip to ProWein in Dusseldorf

Last weekend our newest recruit, Jake, made the long drive to Düsseldorf to attend ProWein – The world’s largest wine fair! Celebrating its 25th year, the massive event runs over 3 days, see’s 61,000 visitors from all over the globe and almost 7,000 exhibitors -producers, importers, buyers and educators etc. It’s a real melting pot of wine industry professions (and wine students, like Jake). Everyone’s there to network, with business meetings and deals being struck everywhere amongst some 100,000 wines to taste.

When not getting lost amongst the vast array of stuff to taste, Jake made a point of saying hello to some of the producers we stock here at Butlers.

Niepoort

We are huge fans of the Niepoort wines here and have championed them for years. We stock a massive range of their wines which you can find here.

Jake met with Susana their export manager. They had a rather lengthy chat about the markets for the top-quality wines coming out of Portugal and its growing popularity here in the UK. He also got to taste through a line up of their wines, some familiar to him, some not so much.

A standout for him was their Nat’ Coola seriously cool 100% Baga made in a super fresh, easy drinking style. Which we also happen to stock! You can find it here.

Sepp Moser

One of the most famous names in Austrian viticulture. Sepp and his daughter Kathi showed a big range of wines from their super approachable (and very affordable) ‘Classic’ organic range which you can buy here, to their biodynamic ‘Minimal’ range which are made without the addition of sulphites and are slightly more experimental in style.

Ridgeview & Gusbourne

Travel across the continent to taste wines that are made less than half an hour away, why not? Jake couldn’t resist heading to the WineGB stand, who were showing casing 9 of the very best English producers, to say hi to our good friends from Ridgeview (Sussex) & Gusbourne (Kent) – two of our favourite UK producers!

You can find both these top-notch producers and a range of other English bubbling here
