Did you guys know that down here in Butler’s we don’t just specialise in Wine but also offer a variety of great edibles and fishy nibbles.
Our pantry holds a delicious range of sustainable tinned sardines, anchovies and tuna from Portugal and Spain. They are delicious as an addition in meals such as pasta dishes, which gives a tasty, nourishing boost or can be enjoyed by itself loaded on toast or crusty bread for a hearty, sustaining snack. You can also try pairing them with our wine range, like for example the Zallo Anchovies in olive oil will pair beautifully with a Spanish Albarino – Benito Santos. The salinity, mineral notes, and round mouthfeel, with ample fruit and great length will balance the saltiness of the anchovies beautifully.
Pinhais sardines in tomato sauce can go in addition to Quinta Do Espinho. A wine that bursts with aromas of ripe berries, charred wood and cedar. It is complex and concentrated with soft tannins which will work very well in harmony with the tomatoey goodness of saucy sardines.
In addition, a must try is the Berthe Tuna Fillets in Lemon that are premium cuts of tuna in a bright, zesty, light, lemony sauce. It works best in salads with olives and capers. Most importantly it should be paired with Filipa Pato Blanc De Blancs 3b. A premium sparkling pair to a premium tuna fish – this wine is a blend of native Portuguese varietals: Bical, Cercial and Maria Gomes. The lemon and the fatty fish will cut through perfectly through the racy acidity and bubbles in this Cava. Flavours of apples and soft ripe citrus fruit work together to create a clean, crisp and rounded texture in the glass.
As well as delicious nibbles we offer an award winning The Pickle House Spiced Tomato Mix with Pickle Juice! Blended with their iconic pickle juice and plenty of spice it is 100% natural ingredients and vegan friendly. It is a delicious addition to vodka and makes a head-spinning Bloody Mary.
To make one: try a 50ml shot of our Skull Platinum Vodka in a tall glass filled with ice, add the Spiced Tomato mix and garnish with a celery stick. Super easy and eliminates finding all the additional bits and bobs you would usually use!
Last but not least, we offer you a duo of Olive Oils that we personally import to the UK. Tenuta Rasciatano Extra Virgin Olive Oil is Italian and comes to us from the Murgia countryside. It is made from Coratina olive and is the highest expression of the territory. It is powerful, free-range and a true oil. It is characterized by an intense fruity aroma with hints of artichoke and a pleasant slightly bitter aftertaste.
Next to it sits its Portuguese friend Quinta de la Rosa Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It's made with the same care and attention to detail from olives grown organically among the Quinta's vines in the Douro Valley and it's great for everything and with anything.
Both can combine beautifully with light, summery salads, enjoyed poured over vanilla ice cream or as we like to do it here in Butler’s, is to pour out a big glug, rip off a chunk of fresh, crispy bread from our neighbours across the road – Open Bakery and start dipping.
